FAIR Health Offers Alzheimer’s Disease Tools and Resources

Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that causes a decline in thinking skills and memory loss. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias (e.g., vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia) can be life changing. Knowing the care options and costs is vital in choosing the right care. FAIR Health offers a shared decision-making tool and related tools and resources to help you plan and manage care and costs for Alzheimer’s disease. Learn more by visiting the FAIR Health Consumer website section on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (fairhealthconsumer.org/alzheimers).

Shared decision making can help you and your family choose the best care option with a healthcare provider. It is helpful if you are the patient or if you are a caregiver. The Alzheimer’s disease shared decision-making tool* helps you compare drug therapy options and related costs. It shows you a full view of care options that you can talk through with a healthcare provider. It can help you understand different care management options for Alzheimer’s disease.

You can also find the costs of care for this diagnosis by using the FH® Total Treatment Cost tool in this section. The FH Total Treatment Cost tool* tells you the costs of services for a year. It tells you the costs of care in the places where you get care. You can use both the Alzheimer’s disease shared decision-making tool and the FH Total Treatment Cost tool on their own or together to discuss and plan care with a healthcare provider.

Various helpful resources can be found in this section too.

FAIR Health’s printable checklists offer helpful tips and questions to talk through with a healthcare provider. Articles and links to helpful resources also are offered in this section. Some of the resources are about Alzheimer’s disease. Others have to do with caregiving support and services. You can use any or all of these offerings. They can help you and your healthcare provider choose the best option for your situation.

For other tools and resources for older adults and family caregivers, see FAIR Health for Older Adults (fairhealtholderadults.org).

The tools and resources are made possible with funding from The John A. Hartford Foundation.

* The tools and resources available in the Alzheimer’s disease section are not meant to be medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. They are meant to share information to help you engage in shared decision making with healthcare providers. Each patient’s condition will vary. The clinical options in the decision aids should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
